要亲近神

路加福音第10章：38-42节
38.他们走路的时候，耶稣进了一个村庄。有一个名叫马大的女人，接他到家里。39.他有一个妹妹，名叫马利亚，坐在住的脚前听道。40.马大被许多要作的事，弄得心烦意乱，就上前来，说：“主啊《我的妹妹让我一个人侍候，你不理吗？41.请吩咐她来帮助我。” 42 主回答她：“马大，马大，你为许多事操心忙碌，但是最需要的只有一件，马利亚已经选择了那上好的分，是不能从她夺去的。”

你有想过主为什么会讲“马利亚已经选择了那上好的分”（42节）是马利亚做的比马大好吗？

不是的，不是说马大做的不好，虽然马大有在侍候主，但马大一直忙碌的做事情，没有马利亚那样肯发时间去听主的道，亲近神，马利亚这也是在服侍神，因此说马利亚已经选择了那上好的分，就是听主的道。

只要我们肯发时间去读一些圣经，哪怕是读一小节经文，只要读懂，做个灵修祷告，就已经是在亲近神，向神说话，要记得凡事祷告，感谢。虽然我们知道读书很重要，发得时间比较久，但不要忘了亲近神，向神祷告，只要空一点时间出来，你会发现其实神一直在你身边，看顾你，赐恩典给你。

感谢主让我体会到这节经文给我的警醒，让我明白亲近神，是何等的平安和喜乐，还有感动，所以要常常祷告，亲近上帝。

而父亲们：“你们要知道儿女是看着你，你们不要只顾工作，忘记关心妻儿子女。”圣经箴言书第17章-第6节：”儿孙是老人的冠冕，父亲是儿女的荣耀。”

I'm sure most of you must have heard Pastor Yuyi's preaching last Sunday, It was great, isn't it? I've learnt many fantastic new Christian songs.

Qingmei and I particularly like this one- Still.
This song teaches us that regardless of the difficulties faced, regardless of any obstacles we may come across with, we must always trust the Lord our Faher.
It teaches us that be it in the past, present or our future endeavours, the Lord is always here with us.
It teaches us that, we, the Children of God, are able to handle lives with a stillness and calmness that no other can have, because the Lord is God.

今天赖永惠传道讲的主题是：全家“福”。经文是以弗所书 6：1~4 “1.你们作儿女的，要在主里听从父母，因为这是理所当然的。2.要孝敬父母，使你得福，再世长寿。3.这是第一条带着应许的诫命。4.你们作父亲的，不要激怒儿女，却要照着主的教训和劝诫，养育他们。”
今天的赖永惠传道讲了一句话：“不是母亲节到了，你才想到要孝敬父母。”让我明白我已经好久没有跟我妈妈讲话了，好久没有去关心她了，真的让我很难过。但也让我感动到神给我的应许，就是要靠主的爱孝敬父母，使我得福。

Hi, all! I'm back here for update!

I realise that I haven't been posting much about our tuanqi so I shall post on one now.

Although the turnout wasn't as expected, we still have fun cycling around.

Our Father's Love

Nothing Can Separate

From her bedroom window, Rebecca eyed the children playing in the snow enviously. How she longed to play with them!

“Now, Rebecca,” she remembered her father telling her that morning. “You can’t play in the snow today.”

“Why not, Father?” Rebecca had asked. Every day, the neighborhood children gathered at a park just behind Rebecca’s house.

“Just trust me, Rebecca. It’s not what’s best for you today,” her father had replied.

It is beautiful outside, she thought to herself. It was true: the sun was shining brilliantly. Why wouldn’t her father let her go play? Why should she have to miss out on all the fun?

When a snowball exploded just outside her window, Rebecca decided she couldn’t stand it any longer. She simply had to go join the others!

Leaving her book on the table, Rebecca slipped outside. She tried to tell herself she was having a good time, but all the while her heart felt uncomfortable. She kept looking this way and that, fearful least her father see her.

After a few hours, Rebecca finally said her goodbyes and headed back towards the house. She wanted to be safely lodged in her room before her father came home.

Intent on getting to her room as quickly as possible, Rebecca didn’t see the mitten someone had left on the stairs until her foot slipped on it. Next thing she knew, she had fallen several stairs. To her horror, she noticed that she had hit her father’s favorite picture when she fell! A huge gash ran along the front of the picture.

Normally, Rebecca would have hurried immediately to her father after such a fall so he could doctor her up and make her feel better. But not this time. How could she face her father right now? She had disobeyed him and ruined his favorite picture! Biting her lips to keep from crying out, Rebecca grabbed the ruined picture and hobbled to her room.

For the remainder of the day, she lay in agony. Her body ached from the bruises she received on her fall. But her heart—ah, that ached worse of all! She felt certain that her father would no longer love her. She had messed up in the past, but surely this time she had gone too far! He would probably never want to speak to her again. How could he still love her?

After some time, Rebecca's nanny went to check on her and saw her crying. She asked Rebecca what had happened.

“Rebecca, dear,” she said firmly, but gently. “You’ve been very wrong. But you must not continue in your wrongness by sitting here. You must go to your father with the broken picture in your hand and tell him everything.”

“Oh, but I can’t! I’m not worthy of His love!” Rebecca sobbed.

Her nanny sighed patiently. “You were no more worthy of it yesterday than today, child. Your father loves you because you’re his daughter, not because of anything you do or don’t do. Hasn’t he told you everyday since you were a little girl, ‘I love you’? Do you doubt his word? Do you really think his love is dependent on you?”

Although Rebecca's doubted her nanny's words, she decided to pick her courage and admit her wrongdoings to her father.So, still shaking and trembling with fear, Rebecca limped down the hall to the living room. She paused at the doorway. Her father was sitting in his favorite chair, just like he did every night. He looked up when she entered, and a smile radiating with love illuminated his face.

“Ah, you’ve come at last! I’ve been waiting. Come, sit here on my lap.” As he spoke, he opened his arms widely.

Rebecca couldn’t stand it. “Oh, you don’t understand, Father! You can’t love me anymore. I’ve been terribly wicked and-” Rebecca held up the picture frame for her father to see.

“I know, Rebecca—more than you think. I watched you go outside. I watched you fall and hit the picture frame. I saw it all.”

“You did?” Rebecca was flabbergasted. “But-but weren’t you at work?”

Her father shook his head. “I took the day off to spend some special time with you. That’s why I told you not to go outside to play. Ever since I saw you fall, I’ve been longing for you to come to me so I could bandage your wounds and help you. Won’t you come now?”

Rebecca could hardly believe her ears. Her father had planned to spend the afternoon with her…and she had missed it. Oh, what foolishness! Yet her father knew it all…and loved her anyway. Could it be? “But, Father, how can you love me now?”

Rebecca’s father smiled a smile she would never forget. “Rebecca, dear, I loved you before you were born. You’re my daughter. And I will always love you. Although sometimes your actions will result in consequences you could have avoided, nothing can ever separate you from my love. Now won’t you come and let me help you with those bruises?”

"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us." Hi hi, it's been some time since the last update and I'm sure all of you are impatiently waiting for more, right?

Here I come!

Today's blog post will be about the Unseen Hands of God. We may have never seen our Father before, we have never heard Him or felt Him kissing us to bed at night. But yet, we know that He loves us.

I'm sure many of you has heard of this song before (那看不见的双手). This song below is sung by orphans who have lost their parents at a tender age. Yet, the Lord loves them, as He loves us all.

男孩向祖母倾诉生活中不开心的事，在学校的生活让他非常不适应。期间，祖母一直在烘培蛋糕。她问孙子是否愿意品尝一下，男孩答应了。

“来，喝点食用油。”祖母说。

“讨厌！” 男孩说道。

“那么来两个生鸡蛋吧！“

”太恶心了，奶奶。”

“那么你愿意吃点面粉，或者一些发酵粉？”

“奶奶，我都快吐了！”男孩答道。

“是的，这些东西单独品尝起来味道很差。但是它们以适合的比例和正确的方法混合时，美味的蛋糕就做成了。”奶奶继续说，“上帝的做事方式也一样。很多时候我们会想上帝为什么要让我们经历苦难。但是，上帝知道，当他按照自己的顺序把困难排好时，美妙的人生就开始了。”

Yoyo, everyone. I'm back to update!

Anyway, I heard many comments that my blog posts are too long, so this blog post will be short and sweet.

I shall summarise this blog post in only one word, and that is:

Initiative- this is our theme for this year. Now that 2010 is coming to an end. It is time to reflect on whether we have fulfilled this theme. Have you taken the initiative to read the Bible this year? Have you taken the initiative to pray? Have you taken the initiative to improve your relationship with friends and family? If you haven't, do it NOW. It is never too late.

See you at chalet on 29th Dec! I believe that we will have an enjoyable time.

Christmas and Changes

Time flies, and a year is about to pass in a blink of an eye. So, before the month of December comes to an end, let us stop and have a quick glance of the things around you. Many things have changed, be it within or around us. All of us have grown and matured. We had more fulfilling memories with our families, our friends and the Lord our Father above. Some of us are graduating and waiting to go to a new school next year. Our beloved 589a is in construction.

Changes.

Suddenly, I was reminded of what Rev. Stephen Tong said to the little kids at the Children Rally, "Things around us will change, but our Jesus never".

Whatever obstacles we encountered, whatever hardships, whatever sorrow, Jesus's love never changes.
No matter how others view us, or even how we may look ourselves with dissatisfaction, Jesus's love for us remains
Be it what we did in the past and what lays in the future, our Lord loves us always.

OK, enough melancholy here. Let's move on to some more cheerful stuff.

It's the end of the year. So what's coming up?

CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember to attend the service on 25th December, Christmas Day itself. Do invite your friends along. And speaking about friends, have you invited any to our chalet from 31st Dec-1 Jan?

"Let me explain the problem science has with Jesus Christ."The atheist professor of philosophy pauses before his class and then asks one of his new students to stand.

"You're a Christian, aren't you, son?"

"Yes sir," the student says.

"So you believe in God?"

"Absolutely."

"Is God good?"

"Sure! God's good, and I will Keep The Faith."

"Is God all-powerful? Can God do anything?"

"Yes."

"Are you good or evil?"

"The Bible says I'm evil."

The professor grins knowingly. "Aha! The Bible!" He considers for a moment. "Here's one for you. Let's say there's a sick person over here and you can cure him. You can do it. Would you help them? Would you try?"

"Yes sir, I would."

"So you're good...!"

"I wouldn't say that."

"But why not say that? You'd help a sick and maimed person if you could. Most of us would if we could. But God doesn't."

The student does not answer, so the professor continues. "He doesn't, does he? My brother was a Christian who died of cancer, even though he prayed to Jesus to heal him. How is this Jesus good? Hmmm? Can you answer that one?"

The student remains silent.

"No, you can't, can you?" the professor says. He takes a sip of water from a glass on his desk to give the student time to relax. "Let's start again, young fella. Is God good?"

"Er... Yes," the student says.

"Is Satan good?"

The student doesn't hesitate on this one. "No."

"Then where does Satan come from?"

The student falters. "From... God..."

"That's right. God made Satan, didn't he? Tell me, son. Is there evil in this world?"

"Yes, sir."

"Evil's everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything correct?"

"Yes."

"So who created evil?" Again, the student has no answer.

"Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness. All these terrible things, do they exist in this world?"

The student squirms on his feet. "Yes."

"So who created them?"

The student does not answer again, so the professor repeats his question, "Who created them? " There is still no answer. Suddenly the lecturer breaks away to pace in front of the classroom. The class is mesmerized. "Tell me," he continues. "Do you believe in Jesus Christ, son?" The student's voice betrays him and cracks. "Yes, professor. I do." The old man stops pacing. "Science says you have five senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Have you ever seen Jesus?"

"No sir. I've never seen Him."

"Then tell us if you've ever heard your Jesus?"

"No, sir. I have not."

"Have you ever felt your Jesus, tasted your Jesus or smelt your Jesus? Have you ever had any sensory perception of Jesus Christ, or God for that matter."

"No, sir, I'm afraid I haven't."

"Yet you still believe in him?"

"Yes."

"According to the rules of empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol, science says your God doesn't exist. What do you say to that son?"

"Nothing," the student replies. "I only have my faith."

"Yes, faith," the professor repeats. "And that is the problem science has with God. There is no evidence, only faith."

The student stands quietly for a moment, before asking a question of his own."Professor, is there such thing as heat?"

"Yes," the professor replies. "There's heat."

"And is there such a thing as cold?"

"Yes, son, there's cold too."

"No sir, there isn't."

The professor turns to face the student, obviously interested. The room suddenly becomes very quiet. The student begins to explain. "You can have lots of heat, even more heat, super-heat, mega-heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat, but we don't have anything called 'cold'. We can hit 458 degrees below zero, which is no heat, but we can't go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold; otherwise we would be able to go colder than - 458 degrees. You see, sir, cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat we can measure in thermal units because heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it."

Silence across the room. A pen drops somewhere in the classroom, sounding like a hammer.

"What about darkness, professor. Is there such a thing as darkness?"

"Yes," the professor replies without hesitation. "What is night if it isn't darkness?"

"You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is not something; it is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light... but if you have no light constantly you have nothing and it's called darkness, isn't it? That's the meaning we use to define the word. In reality, darkness isn't. If it were, you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn't you?"

The professor begins to smile at the student in front of him. This will be a good semester."So what point are you making, young man?"

"Yes, professor. My point is, your philosophical premise is flawed to start with and so your conclusion must also be flawed."

The professor's face cannot hide his surprise this time. "Flawed? Can you explain how?"

"You are working on the premise of duality," the student explains. "You argue that there is life and then there's death; a good God and a bad God. You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, science can't even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing. Death is not the opposite of life, just the absence of it. Now tell me, professor. Do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?"

"If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, young man, yes, of course I do." "Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?"The professor begins to shake his head, still smiling, as he realizes where the argument is going. A very good semester indeed.

"Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor, are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you now not a scientist, but a preacher?"The class is in uproar. The student remains silent until the commotion has subsided."To continue the point you were making earlier, let me give you an example of what I mean?"

The student looks around the room."Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the professor's brain?"The class breaks out into laughter.

"Is there anyone here who has ever heard the professor's brain, felt the professor's brain, touched or smelt the professor's brain? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable, demonstrable protocol, science says that you have no brain, with all due respect, sir. So if science says you have no brain, how can we trust your lectures, sir?"Now the room is silent. The professor just stares at the student, his face unreadable.Finally, after what seems an eternity, the old man answers. "I guess you'll have to take them on faith."

之前有一位五歲大的小女孩-以恩，在韓國的一個兢藝的節目中勝出以恩，首先彈調出貝多芬的「給愛麗絲」，她在三歲的時候第一次聽見這首歌，很快便能背誦彈奏出來；第二首是蕭邦的「即興幻想曲」，是一首難度極高的曲子，但也沒有難倒-以恩。最後，她還立刻和現場來賓進行演出，只要聽見歌手的聲音，立刻能夠協助伴奏。

I wonder if there is any TV show that features the life and testaments of God's most faithful servant.

Well, this is a host show in Taiwan where they invited 腓力牧師.
To give you some background information, 腓力牧師 is an Indonesian Chinese. He came to Taiwan a few years ago and saw the needs of the people there.

I am sure everyone of us will be touched by his testimony. Of course, this is a good show to show your friends too :)

Hi all, sorry for not updating for such a long time.

Anyway, I'm here to share with all of you an inspirational video which my teacher showed me in class. It is a speech by Steve Jobs during 2005 Stanford University Commencement Address.

A little inside information about Steve Jobs (for those who really don't know): he is currently the CEO of the Apple company and was considered the greatest CEO in the world today. Astounding inventions like the Macs, Ipod, Iphone etc are all the result of his brilliant brain.

I know that this may not have much link to devotions and our faith, but I hope all of you will take some time to watch this. I'm sure you will have a lot of points to ponder about.

This is a joke I read from Readers' Digest.

A man was driving down the street in a lather because he had an important meeting and couldn't find a parking space. Looking up to heaven, he said, "Lord, take pity on me. If you find me a parking space, I promise to go to church every Sunday for the rest of my life and give up swearing." Miraculously, a spot opened right in front of the building. The man looked up and said," Never mind. I found one."

I hope that everyone of us, while laughing at this joke, will also sit down and contemplate how this is so closely related to our spiritual lives.

How many times have we begged God to provide us something to satisfy our own desire but not to glorify His name?
How many times have we made a promise to God, but did not fulfill it in the end?
How many times have we taken all that God has given for granted?
How many times have we blamed God for the unfortunate situations we encountered?

How often have we thanked God for all the blessings He gives?
How often have we settled down to reflect on our misdeeds and wrongdoings?
How often have we tried to spread the gospel among our peers and relatives?

Life in the modern world is an extremely hectic one. The hustle and bustle of the preoccupied society does really seem to drive us crazy at times. We may be too mentally drained, exhausted, perhaps overstressed by the unbearing pressure of our environment that the importance of God in our hearts diminishes. God becomes our wishing well, fulfilling all our dreams in just a simple prayer.

After reading this, I hope that all of us will really sit down and reflect about our relationship with our Father in Heaven, our family and our friends for the past week. Has it been good so far? Or has it been abysmal? If so, something has to be done about it. Remember, small changes are necessitated by BIG improvements :)

Our cargo ship was anchored about 16 kilometres from the Indonesian Island of Tarakan, off the east coast of Borneo, waiting to pick up a shipment of plywood. It was Sunday afternoon, June 4, 2000 and I was playing basketball on the ship's deck. I was a Deck Cadet and as Sunday was our day off, most of out crew had gone ashore, while others stayed intheir cabins. The only person with me was the Abled Bodied Seaman (AB).

At around 5 pm, the AB said that he was going to the mess hall to watch TV. I continued shooting baskets when, all of a sudden, the ball took an odd bounce and flew over the starboard railing.

I rushed to the railing and spotted it bobbling in the water 40 feet below. Seeing a ladder on the side of the ship down to the waterline, I figured that I could rescue my ball and easily climb on deck. Hence, without thinking, I took off my shirt and dived into the sea.

I reached the ball in a few strokes, but as I turned back, I realised that I was being carried away by a current. The current was simply too strong for me to return back to my ship. Holding the ball as a float, I was slowly drifted away into the Celebes Sea.

I shouted for help, but nobody could hear me. Almost two hours had passed and it was getting dark. Perhaps the AB on duty, seeing that I was no longer playing basketball, assumed that I had returned to my cabon. I saw a fishing boat nearby and started shouting, "Help! Help meeee!!!" But no one heard, perhaps because the motor was too loud. I decided to wait for a few more hours as there was nothing I could do. Despite my situation, I tried to remain calm and composed. That was when my leg started to cramp.

When I was in college, I was once overcome by agonising cramps while swimming and had to be rescued by my friend. Even though the pain wasn't too bad, I knew I could be in trouble.

I thought of my fiancee, Richelle Roxas back in Mandaluyong. We had met almost three years earlier and I had spent a lot of time since then working at sea so we could have a good start in life. I started to pray," Lord, please help me, I am too young to die. I want to experience having a family-a wife and a son. Please Lord, not now. I beg you. I am getting married and I love my girl so much"

I looked at one of the anchored ships, which was busy taking on cargo from a barge on her portside. I knew that the crew on it would be Indonesian.

"TULONG", I shouted, I did not know why, at that time, I used the word for help from my native tongue, Tagalog. What I did not know was that Indonesians used a similar word for help.
Fortunely, a stevedore heard my shouts and approached his captain. They saw me waving in the water and manoeuvred the boat towards me. I was saved after being in the water for 4 hours.
I told my rescuers what happened and was suprised to learn that half of the bargo's cargo would soon be loaded onto my own ship.

It all happened almost a decade ago and so much has changed since then. I felt that God, in answering my prayers, had given me a second chance to live. I returned to my hometown to marry Richelle and we gave birth to our son, Rad Anjelo soon after. I gave up work as a seaman and now work as a stunt instructor for television and movie production.

Most importantly, I live my life, knowing that it is a gift from God

International Women's Day

8 March is the International Women's Day!!! And what better way is there to celebrate this day by learning more about the women in the Bible?

1. Virgin Mary

The Scriptures tell us that the young virgin, betrothed to a carpenter, Joseph, was granted a very special favor. “You will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David… and of his kingdom there will be no end.” What is most notable is not the miraculous visitation, it’s that she said a courageous “Yes."

Mary was the first disciple of Christ. She had to believe in him before anyone else. Her faith in Jesus was not a product of her extraordinary actions. It was a gift. Her lesson to us is that we must let go of the notion that we create faith based on our works. God gifts us with faith, which makes our good works possible.

2. Photoni the Samaritan

Like Jesus, the Samaritan woman came to the well thirsty. Jesus wanted to quench his bodily thirst; so did the woman, but the story hints at deeper layers of meaning. Perhaps Jesus thirsted for souls, and the woman for at-long-last love. “Give me a drink,” Jesus said, a scandal; Jews were forbidden to share anything in common with unclean Samaritans. When she questioned him he replied, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.”

Living water must have sounded good to the ex-wife of five, now intimately involved with a sixth lover. She took a long, deep drink, never to thirst again. Photini became one of Christianity's earliest evangelists, telling everyone she knew what Jesus had done. She teaches us that no matter how dry our souls are, love can make a surprising appearance and quench all our thirsts.

3. Eve

Enter Eve, formed from Adam’s rib, made of the same raw materials as he, and given the power to choose between good and evil. In the creation story we find a strong, interdependent Eve, fully engaged with the world around her. She explored the Garden, conversed with a serpent, decided on the forbidden fruit, and liked it enough to share the experience with Adam.

Eve’s story reminds us that women can be both creative and destructive. She teaches us to weigh our choices carefully, tempering our desires with wisdom.

A little story for Christmas...

As 25 December nears us, we see advertisements for the "Great Christmas Sale" flooding the newspapers. But is Christmas really all about clinching the best shopping deals?

Here's a little story about the true meaning of Christmas...

Once upon a time, there was a man who looked upon Christmas as a lot of humbug.

He wasn't a Scrooge. He was a very kind and decent person, generous to his family, upright in all his dealings with other men. But he didn't believe all that stuff about an incarnation which churches proclaim at Christmas. And he was too honest to pretend that he did.

"I am truly sorry to distress you," he told his wife, who was a faithful churchgoer, "but I simply cannot understand this claim that God became man. It doesn't make any sense to me."

On Christmas Eve, his wife and children went to church for the midnight service. He declined to accompany them. "I'd feel like a hypocrite," he explained. "I'd much rather stay at home. But I'll wait up for you."

Shortly after his family drove away in the car, snow began to fall. He went to the window and watched the flurries getting heavier and heavier.

"If we must have a Christmas," he reflected, "it's nice to have a white one."

He went back to his chair by the fireside and began to read his newspaper. A few minutes later, he was startled by a thudding sound. It was quickly followed by another, then another. He thought that someone must be throwing snow balls at his living room window.

When he went to the front door to investigate, he found a flock of birds huddled miserably in the snow. They had been caught in the storm, and in a desperate search for shelter had tried to fly through his window.

I can't let those poor creatures lie there and freeze, he thought. But how can I help them?

Then he remembered the barn where the children's pony was stabled. It would provide a warm shelter. He quickly put on his coat and galoshes and tramped through the deepening snow to the barn. He opened the doors wide and turned on the light. But the birds didn't come in.

Food will bring them in, he thought. So he hurried back to the house for bread crumbs, which he sprinkled on the snow to make a trail into the barn. To his dismay, the birds ignored the bread crumbs and continued to flop around helplessly in the snow. He tried shooing them into the barn by walking around and waving his arms. They scattered in every direction - except into the warm, lighted barn.

"They find me a strange and terrifying creature," he said to himself, "and I can't seem to think of any way to let them know they can trust me. If only I could be a bird myself for a few minutes, perhaps I could lead them to safety."

Just at that moment, the church bells began to ring. He stood silently for a while, listening to the bells pealing the glad tidings of Christmas. Then he sank to his knees in the snow.

"Now I understand," he whispered. "Now I see why you had to do it."

For those of you who've missed the fellowship on SHAPE, Yu Hui has prepared a summarized version of what's covered right here so take some time to read it :)

What you are is God’s gift to you; what you do with yourself is your gift to God.

Don’t act thoughtlessly, but try to find out and do whatever the Lord wants you to.
Instead of struggling at the wrong place, why not take a step back and find out what purpose God has created you for, by clarifying your SHAPE.

S – Spiritual Gifts
Start experimenting with different ministries and then you’ll discover your gifts! Until you actually get involved in serving, you’re not going to know what you’re good at.

H – Heart
Another word for heart is passion. There are certain subjects that you feel passionate about and others that you couldn’t care less about.
God had a purpose in giving you your inborn interests. Your emotional heartbeat reveals a very important key to understanding his intentions for your life. Don’t ignore your natural interests. People rarely excel at tasks they don’t enjoy doing. High achievers enjoy what they do.

A – Abilities
These are the natural talents that you were born with. Some people have a natural ability with words. They came out of the womb talking! Others are naturally good with numbers. They think mathematically and they can’t understand why you can’t understand calculus.
One of the most common excuses people give for not getting involved in ministry is, “I just don’t have any abilities to offer.” Nothing could be further from the truth. Many national studies have proven that the average person possesses from five hundred to seven hundred skills!

P – Personality
There is no “right” or “wrong” temperament for ministry. We need all kinds of personalities to balance the church and give it flavour.
Your personality will affect how and where you use your spiritual gifts and abilities. For instance, two people may have the same gift of evangelism, but if one is introverted and the other is extroverted, that gift will be expressed in different ways.
When you minister in a manner that is consistent with the personality God gave you, you experience fulfilment, satisfaction and fruitfulness. It feels good when you do exactly what God made you to do.

E – Experience
God never wastes an experience. Romans 8:28 reminds us, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
* Educational experiences: What were your favorite subjects in school?
* Vocational experiences: What jobs have you enjoyed and achieved results while doing?
* Spiritual experiences: What have been meaningful or decisive times with God in your life?
* Ministry experiences: How have you served God in the past?
Painful experiences: What are the problems, hurts, and trials that you’ve learned from?

Wise stewardship of your life begins by understanding your shape. You will be most effective and fulfilled in ministry when you use your spiritual gifts and abilities in the area of your heart’s desire and in a way that best expresses your personality and experiences.

A true story that happened to a minister in New York... Read till the end!!!

It was a cold evening in upper New York State, it looked like it could snow. The mountain roads were damp with sheets of ice, so it was strange to see a four door sedan speeding recklessly through the night. Inside the car was a woman probably in her late thirties looking at the road as if in a trance. She wasn't aware of the tires squealing on the turns. You see it didn't matter to her if she ran off the road and crashed into the valley below, because she was going to kill herself.

We don't know why her life had no meaning to her any more. It could have been a bad marriage or the abortion of a child, whisky or dope. The main thing was she had no where to turn, no one to trust, no one including herself that thought her life had any value. She had come up this road before. But tonight she was determined she would make it to the top and then off the road and into the gorge.

Upset and nervous she switched on the radio to calm down until she reached the top. A calm voice came on and she listened, it was a minister. She had never been very religious even as a child, her family was always to busy for church. This man was talking about Jesus. How much He loved us, how He died for us. She wished she had something to die for. Something besides putting an end to her problems.

The minister was inviting people to the service now, he was giving the address of the church. It was a country church on the same highway she was on. A small town up ahead. She had been through it before. It was almost to the top of the mountain. She might stop and find out more about this man Jesus and what He died for. She would like to have a purpose to her death, something besides escaping her miserable life.

As she went into the Church the same man with the quite voice was speaking. Her mind was still not functioning well but she was picking up some of the words. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son ... "Because he loves me" says the Lord, "I will rescue him" ... "I will not forsake you, I will never leave you" ... The time passed and tears were running down her eyes. The service was over and the man was calling people to be saved. He was staring at her. She knew he was talking to her. She quietly got up and walked down the aisle and knelt before him as she dedicated her life to Jesus.

She felt new, clean, her troubles were just a memory. People were smiling at her and hugging her. Two people said they loved her, another asked if she would come back and join them. The minister brought his wife to meet her. She smiled at the minister and thanked him.

She said "my life was almost over when I heard your broadcast."

"What do you mean sister?"

"Your radio broadcast, I heard it in the car right before I came in."

"Sister we are a very small church we don't have a radio broadcast."

Movie Screening this Saturday! Showing The Source of Love, 源来是爱.

Official Synopsis:

明是个严苛的中文老师。在长州(香港的一个小岛)岛上的大部分居民都因他的教导而掌握了良好的语文水平。他所拥有的体面事业、刻苦耐劳的儿子、上了大学的女儿，性情开朗的妻子，都让人以为他是个非常满足的人。明一心想成为一位坚韧、传统的中国严父，但这却使他烦恼不已。

尽管同住在一个屋檐下，明的家庭却出现了危机。他与自己的儿子、杰的关系闹得很僵。杰过去曾是私会党徒、他在学校的恶劣成绩、以及讲话口吃的毛病，使父子之间的感情出现了很大的鸿沟。虽然杰已经洗心革面，明仍然无法忘记他的过去、也对儿子因口吃所带来的羞辱耿耿于怀。

苏珊终于找到了胎儿的亲生父亲，不料胎儿父亲却要抛弃妻儿。而苏珊一怒之下伤了负心汉，并被捕入狱。她的秘密终于曝光了，并且进一步成为家变的危机。明虽然到来缴保费让苏珊出狱，但他那冷峻的疏离态度却让苏珊感到无比的绝望。明似乎不能抛弃根深蒂固的传统观念，以致眼见自己的温暖家庭日渐决裂也无法可施。

从此明的世界开始崩溃。爷爷的精神状况真的日益衰退，他还擅离安老院，不知所踪。当明在横街窄巷到处寻找爷爷时，也开始一幕幕寻回自己的童年往事。在他寻父的日子里，他那至高无上的价值观也逐渐解体。但是，这反而让明开始聆听杰一直以来想告诉他的人生真谛。最后明终于明白了真爱的泉源。虽然明所失去的再也无法寻回，他的心却已改变。而他的家庭也因此像火凤凰般在烈火中重生！

Yo, brothers and sisters, now is the time for iSHARE again!

Sometimes, I wonder, how many of us ever feel vexed and exasperated about everything in life-the expeditious flow of time, the mountain pile of work, the rapid pace of the modern life? How many of us wake up every single day, with a purpose, a goal, a motive? We have been living for so many years on this Earth-in fact, at least more than twelve years. Yet, some of us have never stopped to question God’s purpose of creating us in this universe, of bringing us in this country, of putting us among our families and friends.

To me, life is like a streaming river, going through endless paths toward our final destination-Heaven. Sometimes, we will pass through patches of beautiful gardens. We stop by to take in the sweet fragrance of attractive flowers, play in the vast fields of bright green grasses. Yet, the time we spend on these beautiful places are limited, for the turbulent flow of the river will rush us through the next phase of our journey in life. Sometimes, we pass through rocky seabed, hideous caves, with the menacingly sharp edges cutting through the edges of our fine boats, threatening our dear life. Other times, we meet storms. We get lost in the middle of a whirlpool, trapped in the intricate complexity of nature. These are our most vulnerable period. We are on the brink of giving up, on the brink of breaking down into pieces and succumbing to cruel fate.

Yet, there is one thing that we must keep in mind- that Jesus will always be with us. I’m sure most of you have heard of this story before. One day, a man was following his trail on the beach which marked his journey in life. Most of the time, he saw two sets of footprints- one set was Jesus’, and the other was his. However, he noticed that at his most troubled moments, there was only one set of footprints, so he asked Jesus,” Where were you during my most troubled moments? Why is there only one set of footprints on the sand?” Jesus replied, “For all the times in your life, I have always been with you. However, during your hardest moments, I lifted you up and carried you on my back. The set of footprint you saw was mine.”

Jesus came with a reason- to sacrifice on the cross for us. And God created us for a reason. This reason may vary for each and every one of us. Therefore, whenever we are feeling exasperated or lost in life, we should always remember our mission in this world.

SMILE! - Is there a reason NOT to smile when we have an opportunity to worship God?

MEANING! - Reflect on the meaning of the words and sing like you meant every single word of it.

INTERACTION! - Make an effort to interact with the brothers and sisters!

LIVELY! - Make worship fun by adding twists to the way we sing the songs (e.g. removing some the words, etc.)

ENJOY WORSHIPPING GOD! - Although it can be pretty stressful leading the fellowship, make sure you come to the heart of worship by really worshipping Him with all your heart and soul.

SING WITH! - This refers to the type of heart we use to sing the songs. It could be with a thanksgiving heart, a worshipful heart, etc.

So, remember to refer to S.M.I.L.E.S. whenever you're in charge of praise and worship during fellowship!

Hi guys!

Came across this very insightful article in a devotions book. The article says, FAITH STARTS AT HOME.

When we are in school, at work, in church or outside the comforts of our home, we're usually very busy being a good testimony to Christ. However, what about our behaviour at home?

What we are at home reflects what we really are as it's at home where we relax and "be ourselves". Our behaviour at home reflects our true character and faith. Therefore, it's important for us to treat our family members with as much love, respect and patience as we treat our friends, teachers, classmates, etc.

So, do think twice when you're about to quarrel with your siblings or argue with your parents. It doesn't hurt to volunteer to do the chores once in a while or pray for your family too! Remember, faith starts at home!

Prayer: God, help me be kind and thoughtful to my family. When I start treating them with less compassion, give me a new heart, a new perspective. I want to serve them with love and respect and honour You in my home. Amen.

Hello brothers and sisters,

Death is in fact a very interesting topic to talk about.

I believe many of us here are afraid of death.
To die means an end to your life.

You might think that you are still young to face death;
You might think that there is still a long way to go in life;
You might have many things yet to do and so on...

But Jesus once said, “I am the Living One…And I hold the keys of death and Hades.” in Revelation 1:18.

After reading this sentence that Jesus said.
You can rest assure that death is nothing to be afraid of.
As He is the one who is in control.

Jesus also said, “Don’t be afraid! When your time comes, I’ll show you the way. Everything will be all right because I will be with you.”

Jesus asked us not to be afraid as He will be with us!

GOOD NEWS! JESUS HAS RISEN FROM THE DEAD!

Jesus won death…

So for those who are in Him, you need not be afraid of death for we know that He has the power to overcome everything including the most terrifying fact – DEATH!

路加福音24 ：13 – 35

路加福音24 ：17 ：耶稣说：“你们走路的时候，彼此讨

论的是什么事呢？”他们就站住，面带愁容；。。。

The background of the verses is about Jesus, after resurrection, drawing himself near two men (followers of Jesus) on the road to Emmaus (a village near Jerusalem). The scripture said: “But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.” (verse 16). When Jesus asked them what were they discussing, “they stood still, looking sad.” (verse 17). Then they told Jesus about the crucifixion incident.

Reflections:

At times, we may meet various challenges and difficulties in our lives. Be it issues with school work, friends or family matters. These issues often brought about anxiety. Occasionally, we may feel out of control and like the two men (stood still, looking sad) who cannot see Jesus at that moment. One thing we must be sure though, our LORD Jesus Christ is just by our side.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, let us remember that Jesus is always by our side, walking with us. Let us talk to him through prayers and listen to him through the Bible and by observing the things around us.

Remember, our LORD Jesus’ grace is sufficient for us and let us walk closely with our shepherd today!

Hello GJYouths!

It's my turn for ishare this week! :)

I read Ezekiel (以西结书) 2:8 - 3:3 this morning for quiet time and I have learnt alot through this passage.

Do you know about this book in the bible? It's a book in the Old Testament, it's not a commonly heard book as compared to Genesis, Psalms, 4 Gospel books, etc.. It's about what God told prophet Ezekiel to tell His people - the Israelites - when they were captured to Babylon.

Ezekiel saw many visions from God. In the passage that I read today, the vision that Ezekiel saw was to eat a scroll from heaven. This "scroll" refers to the Scriptures, in other words, the Bible.

In Ezekiel 3:3, it is written that "so I ate it, and it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth."

When I read this, my reaction was, "WOW! As sweet as honey? That's coool!"

Although the context that we are in now is different from that of prophet Ezekiel, I believe we still can learn something from him. As I mentioned earlier, the "scroll" that he "ate" refers to B-I-B-L-E, Bible.

Do you know that the Bible is the best-selling book in the world every year?

Do you know that some people in other countries, especially those in the minority tribes in China or some less developed countries, do not enjoy this luxury of owning a bible of their own language or language that they can understand?

I know the second "do you know" might sound cliche and you might have heard it numerous time from various speakers. But I truly feel that it is a luxury to own a bible in our own language!

After reading that passage, especially that verse where prophet Ezekiel wrote that "it was as sweet as honey", I had some reflections.

How do we treat the Bible that we have?
Do we enjoy reading the Bible?
Does it "taste" like honey when we read it?
Do we treat what is written in the Bible as a support in life and when we make decisions in life or do we depend on our own knowledge?

Logically, we can't "eat" the Bible but we can definitely feel the sweetness in it if we take some time to read it daily and take time to digest whatever is written in it.

I know some of us do not do quiet time everyday, but I would strongly encourage you to do it! I am sure you will experience the fun and joy in reading the Word and I am sure that God will speak to you through the Scriptures too!

It is my prayer that all of us read the Bible everyday! If you don't, at least be attentive for sermon on Sundays and bring the Bible for service!

As human beings, we need food intake to sustain our lifes. This applies spiritually too! To sustain our faith and trust in God, we need to read God's Word daily to stay firm and stay strong in our belief and also to prevent our faith in God to waver when we meet difficulties.

We will enjoy it, love it, treat it as our favourite book and say that the Bible "tastes" as sweet as honey!

Recently, tensions are rising in office due to increasing workload among colleagues.
It just takes a strike to light up a fire...

At times when we are stress, we may get frustrated. Often affecting our emotions and how we communicate with people (vice versa) with a lousy attitude.

Sometimes we get offended by people unintentionally by their words.

It just takes a rise in the voice, or a higher decibel of speech, or a mis-use of word, to start a dispute.

Yet, the Bible says: "A man's wisdom gives him patience, it is to his glory to overlook an offense." Proverbs 19:11
“人的明慧使他不轻易动怒；宽恕别人过失的，是自己的荣耀。”箴言19:11

(动) 怒 VS (宽) 恕 (Wow, what a slight difference in chinese characters... what do u think is the difference between these two words?)

More than often, I seriously admit that I talk quite rudely to my beloved family. I really thank them for their love and patience with me all these 21 years...
Being such a loud person, I sometimes wish that I can be more gentle... and I'm practising and cultivating this virtue now... (very slowly o.o)

Working (/studying) requires alot of interaction with people, and majority being non-christians. Most of the time they are not very tactful with words, which can really hurt one's feelings...But again, God spoke to me through His words, where I find great wisdom, strength, and inner-peace in Him.
"A gentle response defuses anger, but a sharp tongue kindles a temper-fire." Proverbs 15:1

“回答柔和，使怒消退。言语暴戾，触动怒气。”箴言15:1

Right now, I try to practice my 1-second rule which I self-devised.
When I'm in urge of an agitated response, I try to pause 1 second ( think "one-thousand" ) before I speak.

And that 1 second helps to remind me, to response in a positive way. To think, before I response.
That way, I will have less chances to heat up an arguement and spoil relationships.

Weird Practice #1: When someone agitates you, close your eyes, relax and take a d-e-e-p breath before you response.
Weird Practice #2: When you want to talk back to a person, lower your voice, best to a wisphering voice.
Weird Practice #3: When you want to scold someone, raise your cheekbones!

HAHA! Weird right? I dare you to try them out this week! Trust me they are weird enough, but they work okay!

Hello everyone! I will be I-sharing one of the devotions i have recently. These past few weeks I have been reading proverbs. Its a book about practical wisdom that is essential for our everyday life. Out of the verses i have read so far, i would like to share with all of you the verse, proverbs chp 9 v10,"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,and the knowledge of the Holy one is insight." In chinese, " 敬畏耶和华是智慧的开端，认识至圣者就是聪明。” I think its really true right? If we truely fear the Lord cause we are in awe of him, maybe we would think twice about doing things that God does not like. Sometimes we do things our way, cause we have not seen God AS God. I believe that if one truely fears God, one would really think twice before doing the "bad" things, like e.g. hating another, scolding vuglarities, disrespecting parents etc. I guess thats what God's wisdom can bring along. Why not try it today and ask for God's wisdom? With the right attitude towards God, I am sure God will in turn also bless us with his blessings. Cheers!

We watched "Agent Abbey" during yesterday's (since it has already past 12am) fellowship and below is the reflections from the youths who came.

We have to be thankful that we're able to know God in Singapore, a country with religious freedom. Numerous other people are being oppressed and some do not even know God, so it is time we start being God's agents, spreading this Word and love as well as praying for countries where it is illegal to pratice Christianity." --- Qiu Ling

"Be thankful and appreciate the freedom of worship and gatherings in the name of Christ. The privilege of having Bible in our own language and reading it anywhere we go in Singapore is a blessing yet many times we have taken for granted. About the Movie:
Abbey, a typical American teenager from Nashville, Tennessee, enjoys being a Christian, going to church, and having fun with her friends. She has never heard about Christians suffering for their faith in Christ. But when she travels to China for the first time with her dad, a photojournalist, Abbey quickly becomes caught up in a plot that involves her new Christian friends, a mysterious secret agent, "illegal" Bibles, and the police! Desperate to undo the mess she inadvertently causes, Abbey finds herself on a daring mission and in the process mourns her own simplistic understanding. She vows to carry the message of the persecuted church to Christians back in America.

Set in modern-day Beijing and filmed on location in China and Taiwan with scenes that include the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and The Great Wall, this drama reveals not only the harsh realities of being a Christian in a restricted nation such as China, but also the all-too-common ignorance of Christians in the free world.

God gave us the blessing to be born in Singapore, which is a democratic society. We do not face any oppression and prosecution throughout our Christianity life. Therefore, we should learn more about the difficulties that Christians from other places face so that we, as brothers and sisters under the Lord, could sit together and presevere to the very end. This movie serves as a very good reminder, to us, the fortunate people, how other Christians are striving hard to carry out the Lord's work and to glorify His name despite difficulties.
